I currently have 2 sump pumps at my home – one in the garage, one in the furnace/utility room.

They both appear to be working fine but, of course, are no good in the event of a power failure (like the big one we had in to last night). First, I would like to look at a few different options: Maybe a battery back up in the event of a power failure? Or, maybe just attach them to a backup generator? Second, the sump pumps are currently draining outside to an area at the side of my home and I want to ensure they are draining properly to avoid water running back in wrong direction.

Third, even though they appear to be working okay, I would like someone to verify they are working fine. The builder who installed them a few years back was awful and cut a lot of corners and installed many other things incorrectly!

Thank you.
