DIY-Plumbing-Drainage-InstallationIf you are planning a DIY plumbing or drainage installation at Toronto home, you need to take the local authority regulations into account. If you wish to change your existing drainage or install a new drainage system, you should always tell the local council. You need to give them a detailed outline of the layout. This will help them to check whether the project complies with the building regulations or not. If you are just replacing the damaged portions, you do not need to tell the local council.

Take a close look at your drainage system before starting the work. Every drainage system consists of foul water and surface water. The water coming out of your bathrooms, parking lot or kitchens are known as foul water. Rainwater is basically known as surface water. These accumulate in the drains, sewage systems and in gutters of older properties. Normally, both rain water and surface water drain into the same outlet in a joint drainage system. Only a modern drainage system can keep the foul water and surface water aloof from each other.

Plan the entire route of the sewage pipes before starting the work. It is better to keep these pipes straight and short. Do not install the pipelines at a steep height. This will certainly lead to an improper drainage system. You can estimate the height of a drain using the surveyor’s site map. If you do not have a site map at hand, use a hose pipe filled with water.

Before installing a drainage trench, make sure that you do not disturb the building’s foundation in any way. If you are installing the drains parallel to the building, make sure that you do not impair any part of the building. Never dig the trench too deep while installing a pipeline for a new drainage system. Lay the pipes quickly and then fill up the trench soon as the testing and inspection is over.

Do not use bricks or any other hard substance to support the pipeline. This can cause significant damage to the pipeline. The bedding should have a hollow cavity (for accommodating the pipeline joints). You should give a full length support to the pipeline. Soon as the inspection is over, fill the gap with granular materials up to 100 mm above the pipeline.

Make sure that the pipelines in a drainage system are accessible to a pair of drainage rods. DIY plumbing or drainage installations are easy, only if you are confident about it. But, always hire a professional if you do not feel confident to do the job yourself.
